The butterfly island

Retour au plan

This is the kingdom of honey-bearing plants, some of which, like the Hungarian acacia (Robinia pseudo-acacia Vati and Dubia 46, etc.) have been chosen for their qualities in this respect. This selection goes as far as selecting flower shape so that the bees will not waste any time as they seek the nectar… Stakhanovists...
The butterfly trees (Buddleia) are everywhere in this island. Our favourite is the Buddleia albiflora with its long pinky-mauve panicles. The Buddleia japonica is fun too for its fruits look like that of millet.
Don't forget that the colours and perfumes of flowers are to seduce insects (a 300 millions years old love story) but not gardeners !
