Plants with thorns are not well
liked, but among them are a few species which
are rather interesting.
Here you will find an astonishing collection of
Rubus (this is a conservation area for these
species) and in particular the Tibetan bramble (Rubus
thibetanus) with its superb silvery wood and its
fern-like foliage.
The Kalopanax is a close relation of Ginseng,
whose roots are used in Chinese medicine because
of its reputation for promoting longevity. It
grows wild in China, Manchuria, Korea and Japan,
from where it was introduced into Europe in
1865.
