After the visit round
the archipelago of islands of trees and shrubs
the belvedere offers a wide view over the garden
and the Abbey as well as over the wild beauty of
the Authie valley.
As you can see from this viewpoint, there are
practically no conifers in this garden. This has
been done on purpose. Whichever way you look
towards the horizon there are no conifers at
all. This is because we absolutely wanted to
respect the surrounding landscape. In fact, even
though 4/5 of the plants in these collections
come from Asia it is perfectly true that they
blend in well.
In this island, towards the rear, there is a
collection of chestnut trees. Further up, an
alley runs alongside the wood. Here there are a
number of exceptional varieties: Celtis,
Hungarian oak, Pyrenean oak, Limetree henryii
and Mongolian Lime. Also, an interesting
collection of species roses is planted along
this alley.
