With more than 5 000 species and
varieties of plants, the Gardens of
Valloires thus present one of the most
important collections of shrubs in France.
In the majority, these plants originate from
China and Japan; they all have the
particularity of being resistant to lime, as
the pH of the soil in the Gardens of
Valloires is higher than 8.5.
The reputation of Valloires is largely due
to its immense rose garden which associates
amongst others, a very extensive collection
of old-fashioned and wild roses.

A garden
signed "Gilles Clément" :
In Valloires Gilles Clément, a renowned
landscape architect, created a perfectly
designed garden that unites the natural
environment and is intended to be resolutely
educational. For the first time, a landscape
designer proposed for an historic site a
modern plan that was not a pale copy of an
ancient garden. Valloires is the first
important work by Gilles Clément who later
created the Rayol Garden, the André Citroen
Park and the Planetary Park.

A garden is in a perpetual state of transformation:
In fact, because a garden is never finished, each year, on a regular basis, new plantations are created at the Valloires Gardens. Gilles Clément regularly plays an active part in the new developments at Valloires, where he has just completed one of the most original plantations ever: the Evolutionary Garden.

Anecdote
:
In 1987, during some works, the very
unfavourable meteorological condition
obliged us to call in a helicopter to put
the stairs in place.
