The maintenance of the 8 hectares of park requires around 20 000 hours of work each year (thus 10 gardeners). In a garden of such importance, with plantations of such different styles and such an extensive collection of plants, the tasks are as numerous as varied: hand weeding of the beds and plantations and the pruning of thousands of shrubs, rose bushes and hedges represent half the work time. Cutting the lawns 2-3 times per week represents 10% of the work but it is in winter that activity is at a maximum in Valloires.

The gardeners reveal their secrets :

Vincent Delaitre (Garden Manager) : Valloires is certainly one of the most difficult of French gardens to maintain because of the variety of species, the styles of the different plantations and the considerable surface area . It is an exciting garden which changes from one season to another and from one year to the next. The increasing number of visitors and their enormous satisfaction encourages us in our efforts. However, the creations and surprises to come are even more numerous as a garden is never finished …".

Pascal : "Such development in 10 years, Valloires is a magnificent garden in all seasons."

Joseph : "Valloires is situated in a magnificent valley. The plant classification is comparatively easy for everyone."

Thierry : ""A very interesting garden in the everyday work with constant development each year."

Bruno : "The collection of perennials is truly remarkable."

"Our fond thoughts go to Adrien Mathé, designer of this site,
who died prematurely on 2nd November 2000".
