Sale
of ladybirds :
Since 1996, the
Gardens of Valloires have sold
ladybird larvae by mail order to
aid in the fight against
greenfly in an ecological manner.
When
should they be used?
As soon as the colonies of
greenfly appear on your plants
(fruit trees, vegetables, rose
bushes etc.) from May to August.
These ladybirds will devour all types of aphid
How many ?
Count 2-3 larvae per rose bush
for example. It is pointless to
use too large a number; a
ladybird eats 50 greenfly per
day on an average. The proposed
sort is called "Coccibelle"; she
arises from a selection of the
"INRA" for her capacity to eat big
quantities of aphids.
How should
they be used ?
The larvae are removed with a
paint brush and placed directly
on to the colonies of greenfly.
Do NOT use insecticide simultaneously
And
afterwards ?
Once the greenfly have been
ingested, the larvae become
adult within 1 month. If the
greenfly are still present, the
ladybirds will reproduce and
remain on the spot, otherwise
they fly to neighbouring plants.
In winter, the ladybirds
hibernate in attics, walls,
stacks of wood etc.
How to
order ?
A box of 60 larvae can be
delivered within 8 days of
receipt of the order. Send us a
cheque for 11 € and the
address to which delivery should
be made.
